The Blame Game
The Blame Game
By Jean Roy
I suffer these lonely nights
and I keep blaming you.
Knowing you don’t have a gun to my heart
I’m the foolish one waiting for you.

No More
No More
By Jean Roy
There are so many things I want to say
but these tears are getting in the way.
My glistening eyes seek for comfort in yours
knowing that the love for me in your heart is no more.

Emptiness
Emptiness
By Jean Roy
Books help me evolve my vocabulary
but none of these new words
can fill the emptiness you left me with.
You have me at a loss for words
as I am consumed by all this hurt.

Unsuccessful Attempts At Quitting
Unsuccessful Attempts At Quitting
By Jean Roy
I.
The hazy smoke
from her three day old cigarette
danced to the soft rhythm
of remembrances she tried to forget.
II.
She exhaled hoping her problems
would run out before the last pull,
but fragments of him had invaded
what would have been her seventh
last attempt to quit; smoking and him.
III.
The fiery ash flicked as her last pull
infiltrated her lungs
leaving a burn
that still intoxicated her heart
of lingering cheap perfume
and midnight phone stares
hoping he’d call.

His Name Is Highlighted Green
His Name Is Highlighted Green
By Jean Roy
I see your name highlighted green;
you’re now online.
We don’t talk anymore.. I’m reminded,
I wish I was blind.
I don’t have the courage
to delete your screen name
hoping one day I’ll tell you how much I miss you
and you’ll IM me that you feel the same.
…and like the color that your name is highlighted in,
I envy the girl who gets to love you now that you are
no longer broken like when you were with me.

After High School
After High School
By Jean Roy
We are nothing more
than unvoiced sentences
and tethered heart beats
that are trapped to the same childish melody
of intermixed binaural love tones
that did not survive after high school.

I Wish
I Wish
By Jean Roy
I wish I could go back
to the very day
we became more than awkward hello’s and handshakes
and stop myself from falling in love with you.

Garden Of Eden
Garden Of Eden
By Jean Roy
His heart was my garden
but I remained impatiently thirsting
for roses of love to sprout
in his field of friendship daisies.
I am left with my organ of love, overgrown with vines
knowing that he could never be mine
and no matter how much these flowers are pruned
in his garden, everlasting love for me will never bloom.

You left this heart of mine bankrupt.
